A woman in poor health who did not take her service dog to Nevada's Nugget Casino Resort reportedly was instructed to exit the gaming venue. 

Heather Vanus, who is said to have epilepsy, recently attempted to visit the casino where she usually goes several times a week. However, approximately two weeks prior, the Reno local was not accompanied by her medical assistance dog, Cherry. Cherry needed to remain at home since the dog had recently been neutered. 

Thus, Vanus visited the casino accompanied by her fiancé. 

When a security guard noticed Cherry was absent, he presented Vanus with an ultimatum.

"They said you can either remove yourself, or you can leave in cuffs,” Vanus recalled to Nevada TV station KOLO. “After it happened, my fiancé looked at me and asked if that really just happened.”

“Security told me that if she [Cherry] stayed at home, then I should have stayed at home with her,” Vanus said.

She also explained to KOLO she’s been a regular at the Nugget Casino for three years.

“They know who we are. When we come in, they automatically bring me water for my dog,” Vanus said about the staff at the casino.

Cherry is aware of how to notify the woman if a seizure is approaching. 

The Nugget Casino chose not to provide a comment on the situation to KOLO, but in a statement, the casino mentioned that it “is entirely devoted to adhering to all ADA regulations, and we invite all patrons with disabilities who utilize service animals … we stay committed to ensuring an inclusive atmosphere for all our visitors.” 

Four Individuals Charged Following Raid 

A search on October 17 of a supposed gambling operation in East Oakland, Calif., resulted in four arrests, with police confiscating cash and gaming equipment. 

A certain quantity of gambling devices, cash, three guns, ammunition, and believed illegal narcotics were confiscated in the raid, as reported by CBS News. Authorities also confiscated multiple cars that had been reported as stolen. 

Law enforcement secured a search warrant for the location after being notified of unusual activity at the premises. 

Four individuals within the building were apprehended but remained unnamed. 

“The department and City of Oakland will seek criminal and civil accountability for those involved in this illegal and dangerous operation, which has contributed to blight in the neighborhood,” the Oakland Police Department said in a recent statement about the raid.

Allegations of Cheating at Casino 

A man from Warwick, RI was detained on Saturday for reportedly cheating while playing at a gaming venue in Lincoln. 

According to the Newport Dispatch, Michael J. Budz, 32, faced charges for cheating at a casino. 

According to Rhode Island State Police, Budz is accused of placing a bet with prior knowledge of the result. He was discharged and will attend court on a future date.
