Last week, a man was convicted of assaulting and stealing from another man who had won a $20K jackpot in New Jersey. 

After discussion, the jurors concluded that Robert Reed, 51, of Newark, N.J., was guilty of second-degree robbery, third-degree aggravated assault, theft by unlawful taking, and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon. 

When he is sentenced on July 18 by Superior Court Judge Dorothy Garrabrant, Reed might receive a prison term ranging from five to 10 years, as reported by NJ.com, a local news source. 

On March 3, Reed observed the potential target, referred to in police documentation as “D.H.”, claim the winnings while they were at a poker table in the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City. 

Reed befriended the man. 

The following morning, he spotted the winner as they both were checking out of a hotel at the gaming establishment. 

Reed stated that he had just missed a bus and required a lift to a nearby bus station. The winner of the jackpot consented, and both men started to head towards the winner's vehicle that was located in a casino parking garage. 

Hit With Wine Bottle 

However, en route to the location, Reed hit the individual in the head with a wine bottle, according to the police. The police stated that he subsequently took the money and other belongings from the victim before escaping. 

The victim endured head wounds from the assault. They were not considered to pose a threat to life. 

New Jersey police were notified and managed to recognize Reed as a suspect by examining the casino surveillance footage and utilizing Reed’s player card. 

This week, Reed continues to be held at the Atlantic County Justice Facility. 

South Carolina Gambling Bust 

A man from South Carolina was apprehended on 22 charges last week following a gambling bust. 

On May 21, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) accused Bruce Leon Moore, III., 25, of one count of maintaining a gambling house, along with 21 counts of unlawfully possessing or operating a slot, video, vending machine, or gambling device. 

In the course of the raid, officials found five Pot-O-Gold-type gambling machines and two fish-type gaming machines, as reported by South Carolina TV station WSPA. 

The well-known gambling establishment was situated in Greenwood, S.C. 

Moore was detained at the Greenwood County Detention Center and subsequently released from custody. 

The matter was handed over to local prosecutors. 

It is uncertain whether additional individuals will face charges in the case.
