In November, Pennsylvania's gaming revenue reached unprecedented levels as both iGaming and sports betting achieved record highs. 

On Tuesday, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) announced that players lost over $562.36 million in November 2024, representing a 26% increase compared to November 2023. Last month had the advantage of an additional weekend day, but extraordinary online gaming activity and a memorable November for oddsmakers, who witnessed numerous NFL and college football matches favor them, contributed more to the remarkable total. 

November set a new record for gross gaming revenue (GGR) in the commonwealth. The prior record was short-lived, having been established in March when gaming operators earned $554.6 million from players. 

Pennsylvania boasts 17 physical casinos, iGaming, both retail and mobile sports wagering, video gaming machines at truck stops, and fantasy sports activities. 

November Recordings 

November was driven by online slots and interactive table games, which generated GGR of $148.6 million (an increase of 36%) and $49.5 million (an increase of 7%), respectively. Total iGaming revenue surpassed $200.4 million, fueled by approximately $2.2 million from online poker rake. 

November marked the inaugural occasion in Pennsylvania's iGaming history where online revenue exceeded $200 million within a single month. Online operators made nearly $42.5 million extra from players compared to November 2023. 

The $200.4 million does not account for the many millions of dollars that bookmakers earned online. Bookmakers announced an all-time high monthly revenue of almost $77.1 million, which is $64.2 million greater than their earnings in the same month of 2023. 

Oddsmakers gained from the Cleveland Browns shocking the Pittsburgh Steelers on November 21, as well as the Philadelphia Eagles not covering the spread on November 3 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The only regular season defeat for the Penn State Nittany Lions occurred on November 2 versus the Ohio State Buckeyes. PSU did not manage to cover the spread in their game against Minnesota on November 23. 

The Philadelphia 76ers' difficulties also benefited the house, as the team lost 11 out of 14 matches in November. The Philadelphia Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins have similarly fallen short of expectations set by oddsmakers. 

Valley Forge Ranks First 

In November, retail slot revenue reached $201.5 million, marking a 6% increase, while retail table revenue stood at $77.5 million, reflecting a 2.5% decline compared to the previous year. Due to a slight increase in in-person play, Boyd Gaming’s Valley Forge Casino Resort in King of Prussia showcased its online strengths, topping the list of 17 casinos. 

In November, Valley Forge’s GGR reached $102.5 million. The physical casino floor contributed only $11.5 million to the total revenue. Most of the remainder primarily originated online via Valley Forge's collaboration with FanDuel. Valley Forge also independently operates the Stardust Online Casino. 

Valley Forge's online casino activities generated a GGR of $54.1 million. FanDuel Sportsbook, the leading sportsbook in Pennsylvania, generated $36.8 million with a handle exceeding $373.6 million. 

Penn Entertainment's Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course ranked second in total revenue, generating $90.4 million. It also depended on its online operations, since its brick-and-mortar casino northeast of Harrisburg in Grantville earned only $13 million. 

Penn's ESPN Bet and Hollywood Casino applications generated $74.4 million from online bettors. Its sports wagering operations contributed $2.8 million on a total handle of $43.8 million.
